10 Quarantine Projects To Keep You Occupied While Stuck At Home

10 Quarantine Projects To Keep You Occupied While Stuck At Home

Stuck inside? You’re not alone. As the current coronavirus pandemic continues to terrorize the globe, people all around the world are staying inside to limit exposure to the virus and prevent its spread.

This social isolation, mandatory or otherwise, can be terribly stifling, especially if you are unable to work from home. As many people are finding, free time is great when you choose it, but can be a mind-numbing bore when forced upon you—especially during times of stress like these!

While the circumstances might not be the best, there’s nothing stopping you from making the most of this time and being productive at home. Look at quarantine as a blessing in disguise. Use it to get something done around the house. Maybe something you’ve been meaning to do—a project you’ve been dreaming of but putting off—or maybe something minor, just to keep your hands busy.

From small tweaks to full transformations, there are plenty of stunning and simple home makeover projects you can do without ever leaving the house. Here are 10 ideas to get you inspired:

1) Create a Home Office Space

If you’re one of the millions of people whose workplaces have temporarily closed down, you may find yourself working from home—possibly for the first time ever. Working remotely can be a challenge, not just because of distractions but because often, our homes just aren’t designed for it.

Creating a dedicated workspace can boost your productivity and help you stay focused on the tasks you need to get done. Choose a nook or corner to set up your desk and stock it with all the office supplies you can find around the house.

No desk? No problem. Create one with a basic shelf or a deep shelf mounted on the wall.

2) Beautify Your Bathroom

All too often, bathrooms are the yuckiest rooms in the house. Keeping them clean requires care and upkeep, which we don’t always have the time or if we’re being honest, the willpower to do. Over time, white grout turns gray, caulking becomes loose, and limescale turns shiny surfaces dull.

The good news is that now you’ve got plenty of time to spruce up your loo, and you don’t have to stop at cleaning it! Bathrooms can be completely made over for cheap and with very few materials. Small tweaks, like changing fixtures, faucets, and shower curtains go a long way.

For a total transformation, you can also cover existing tiles and other non-porous surfaces with Quadrostyle tile stickers. Water-resistant and durable, they stand up again splashes, are easy to clean, and more importantly, they’re beautiful.

3) Upcycle Old Furniture

Hanging on to old furniture you’ve been meaning to throw out or donate? Now may not be the best time to do so, so why not consider renovating those items instead. Not only is it a fun project, but it prevents over-consumption, which is bad for the planet (and your wallet)!

Decorating old furniture with wallpaper is one easy way to make drab furniture dazzle again. Patterns introduce personality to your home and define the energy. We’ve got plenty to choose from, inspired by trends and motifs from around the globe.

4) Primp The Patio

It’s springtime now—the sun is shining, flowers blooming, birds chirping. After a long winter of hibernation, it’s time to take in the fresh air. Don’t let quarantine keep you from getting your daily dose of vitamin D! That means making the most of your backyard, patio, deck, or balcony. If you have an outdoor space, spruce it up.

Dust off your patio furniture and hose down any concrete, stone, or wood that may have lost its luster over the past few months. String up some garland lights and break out the barbecue. In short: make your backyard or balcony someplace you’ll want to spend time.

If you’re feeling more intrepid about your outdoor endeavors, transform your patio into a stylish leisure space by installing tile stickers. Quadrostyle tile stickers are made of outdoor-resistant vinyl, are water resistant, and fade-proof! Install them on covered, waterproof cement surfaces to make sure they last as long as possible.

5) Get Your Spring Cleaning On

What else does springtime mean? Spring cleaning, of course! As if this season of renewal wasn’t already the perfect time to get organized and clear away clutter, it’s also ideal for making time spent at home more agreeable.

The heavy winter textiles and bulky accents that made winter cocooning so comfy can be suffocating in the spring. Switch out your winter blankets for lighter linens and do away with the dust they may have invited into your home. Tidy up, get organized, open the windows, and let your space breathe!

6) Re-Style Your Stairs

An easy way to change the vibe of your home is to renovate your stairs—the perfect canvas for adding dimension and style to your space. The best part? It’s so simple! Little changes, like painting steps or re-staining the wood makes a world of difference.

7) Make Your Fireplace Fierce

Re-doing your fireplace might sound like a big project, associated with heavy materials like stone, brick, and tile. Not to mention the mess! If you have your hands full at home already, with family or remote work, an undertaking of this proportion is out of the question. But it doesn’t have to be so complicated...

One of the most popular applications of tile stickers is on fireplace surrounds. Rather than spending a fortune on material, just peel and stick tile stickers over existing tiles or directly onto the wall, depending on your fireplace, to instantly freshen the façade.

When using adhesive tiles on your fireplace, be sure to exercise normal caution—keep them out of the hearth or any other heated surfaces, where they will melt and burn. In other words, use common sense.

8) Rejuvenate Wooden Surfaces

Are your wooden cabinets looking a little tired? Make them stand out again by stripping and re-staining them. All you need are a stripper, a putty knife, some sandpaper, a sponge, the wood stain of your choosing, and lacquer. If you don’t already have these materials in your garage or shed, you can easily order them online.

Simply apply the stripper to the face of the wooden surface, wait 10 minutes, and use the putty knife to remove the softened lacquer. Sand it down, sponge on the stain, then spray with lacquer and wait to dry. As always, follow the product directions carefully.

This is a great project to keep you occupied for a couple of days, depending on how many wood surfaces you want to re-finish. When you’re done, your wooden surfaces will look brand new!

9) Tend to Your Garden

To limit trips to the grocery store, make use of your garden to grow as much fresh produce as possible. If you don’t already have a produce garden, now is the time to start one!

Designate a space in your yard for planting your favorite fruits and veggies. Tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, and cabbage are great beginner crops. As are berries, which are just coming into season now. Plant your berry patch today and you’ll be harvesting all summer!

If you don’t have a yard, grow a kitchen garden! Use a small window sill planter to grow herbs or small veggies, like peppers or cherry tomatoes. Or, if you’re a techie, invest in an indoor herb garden like the Click & Grow Smart Garden, which takes the guess work out of gardening, so you get a guaranteed harvest, all year round.

10) Upgrade to A Luxury Laundry Room

Your laundry room may not be on display like the rest of the rooms in the house, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t get the same attention when it comes to design. All too often, this is the most ignored room or space in the home.
