If carpeted stairs are not your thing and you've been toying with the idea of ripping it out, you've come to the right place. With a little thought and elbow grease, you can transform your stairs over the weekend just like Lindsey Pembrook.
Lindsey used Quadrostyle stair riser strips to create this eye-popping patchwork of black & white tile patterns. Rather than ordering the same design for each pack, she's ordered a mix of designs.
Check what's under your carpet before attempting this project. If you're lucky enough to have a concrete or wooden staircase then you're OK to do this.
Once you've pulled away the carpet give the area a good vacuum to remove all the debris. If they're raw ( unsealed ) then you'll need to prep the surface for the stickers to grip. We suggest a gloss paint, any colour you like, you might have some leftover lying around the garage.
Sand the risers & treads and paint or stain them to your liking following the manufacturer's directions.
When the paint has cured, we like to leave 5 days to be 100% sure they're dry, give the entire area another good vacuum!
Now, here comes the fun part. Take your stair riser strips and lay them out in the order you'd like. Mark the center of each riser with a pencil. Gently fold the first riser in half, creasing the edge so it helps you place it at the center of the stair riser. Peel off half of the backing paper and smooth this into place along your stair riser, smoothing out any air bubbles with a credit card or ruler. Peel off the rest and smooth out the other half. If you're not happy with the position, no problem! Peel it off and reposition it until you're happy.
Continue covering all the other stairs with the peel & stick risers. Trim the excess with a utility knife or razor blade.
